Clear Brook Volleyball Leader, Alicia Dittrich, Playing Bass, Ice Cream and “Kills!”
The Clear Brook Volleyball team has an amazing Lady Wolverine that is leading them to many victories this season with the power of her smashing spikes and her positive attitude. Alicia Dittrich has a wonderful personality and a determined outlook on her life. She is full of hope and promise and throws everything she has into her world of volleyball, family, and school.
Alicia is a junior and sixteen years old, and she is about ready to start driving a car. She needs to, because she is one busy girl, and with a brother and two sisters she is always on the go. She leads the team in “kills.” but she also leads them by example. Alicia is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of PALS.
She has high expectations and explained, “We have already achieved playing at a higher level than last year. We will have to work harder to win District. We can’t have any “let downs” and everyone on our team must “want it.” Hopefully we will go far in the playoffs!” She said she learned from Coach Thompson that, “you must go for everything, and have fun doing it.”
Her future plans include playing volleyball on a college team and San Diego has sent her letters and a few others expressed interest but her real goal is to maybe become a Physical Therapist. She does know that she also wants to get a Masters Degree that would be in that field. Alicia’s personal goal is to try and get a scholarship for college by playing to the best of her abilities. By playing on her top club team she also hopes more scouts notice her.
She didn’t relax this summer, but played volleyball in the Junior Olympics in Miami, Florida. She also attended Rice Volleyball Camp, Purdue Volleyball Camp in Indiana, and in Pennsylvania, she attended Penn State Volleyball Camp. Alicia laughs and said Volleyball “was” her summer vacation.
Talking to Alicia on the phone I felt like I was interviewing Debra Winger. She has that same cool raspy voice and infectious laugh. Alicia Dittrich is such a character, and her attitude is what brings her out on top of the heap as a standout player in CCISD. She is engaging and involved in many school clubs, such as, PALS, Black History Club, Spirit Club, and Best Buddies.
Alicia likes dance class, music, mostly rock and R & B. She said if she could only listen to one it would be “Crossfade.” The movie that stands out to her is one she watched recently with Kevin Spacey. She said she doesn’t know why she liked it so much but she felt engaged by the movie, K-Pax. Alicia likes music so much she wants to learn to play bass guitar.
Track is another sport she competes in and does High Jump. In intermediate school she was a basketball player and a cheerleader at Westbrook. She says she misses both of those activities.
You can’t believe this girl is so busy and then you find out she does more. Alicia works on weekends at Majestic Adventures, a boat touring company where she is a crew member and Galley manager.
Alicia’s mother is her hero. She told me that her mom strives to work hard providing for their family as a single mother and makes all their dreams come true. She attributes her positive attitude to her mother’s influence. She said her mom always gives her hope and she sets an example of hard work to make your goals happen and your dreams come true.
Alicia is secretly addicted to ice cream. When not playing volleyball you might find her sneaking up to the Dairy Queen for a vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. You’ll be sure to find her adding the most necessary ingredient that she insists upon, “sprinkles.” Alicia said in that sultry Debra Winger voice, with a genuine laugh, “You gotta’ have the sprinkles on your ice cream.”
Years from now this is a girl who will be successful in whatever direction her life takes her. You can tell it in her voice and in her attitude. Alicia Dittrich is an example of what a student athlete is all about. She is a total “winner” on all fronts.
