Chargers Football try to stay Unbeaten at Falcon’s Homecoming Game
The District leading Clear Springs Chargers will be stepping into a dangerous packed house at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium Friday night, October 2, at 7pm, where they will meet the Clear Lake Falcons. Clear Lake will be fired up celebrating their Homecoming game that night. They are hungry for a big District win to knock off the Chargers and get their talons in the running for the District championship.
Clear Springs carries an undefeated District record into the game and their season record is 3 wins and only 1 loss. Clear Lake has a District loss and their season record is 1 win and 3 losses.
The Falcons bring a rushing attack that averages 340 yards a game and does not rely on the passing game, which totals only an average of fifty yards a game through the air. Randall Hollimon is the Falcons workhorse and leads all rushers this season. The Clear Lake Defense has been struggling, allowing the second most points scored against them, at 120. Only Clear Brook’s defense has allowed more points this year.
The Chargers bring a team with a “No-Huddle” wide open spread attack that mixes formations and even brings linebackers and cornerbacks in on offense to become playmakers. Middle Linebacker Trevon Randle and Cornerback Sam Richardson both have scored offensive touchdowns running out of the Chargers’s backfield this season. The Chargers offense is second only to the Clear Brook Wolverines in scoring, racking up 134 points in 4 games. The Clear Springs defense is second in the district with only 77 points allowed this season. Only the Dickinson Gators have a stingier defense allowing 68 points this season.
When the Falcons from the north in CCISD, and the Chargers from the south in CCISD, come together Friday night on Clear Lake’s Homecoming ground anything is possible, just look at last weeks cross town rivalry with Clear Creek battling Clear Brook. Their district matchup produced eleven touchdowns between the two and the game was never settled until less than a minute left to play. That is the kind of game the Chargers and the Falcons expect to bring into League City on Friday night.
I will have to give the Clear Lake band, drill team, and the Falcon cheerleaders the edge in the game only because it is their Homecoming. That should bring more flip flops, more robust sounds and an energetic excitement to go with the beautiful gowns and Homecoming Queen Candidates at Halftime.
