Clear Lake’s Quarterback Steven Hanley rushed for 153 yards and was joined by Randall Hollimon’s 100 yards and Sean McCraney’s 116 yards rushing to produce three runners with over a hundred yards in one game. All that running up and down the field still couldn’t produce the much needed win over The Woodlands Highlander team that is making teams around the state taken notice, after they upset Katy last week and now beat a powerful rushing attack like the Clear Lake Falcons.

On The Woodlands first possession Danny Lasco ripped off a 74 yard run to put the Highlanders up 7-0 in the first quarter.  Clear Lake responded with a drive of their own capped by a touchdown pass of 20 yards from Steven Hanley to Randall Hollimon, evening things out at 7-7.

The Woodlands big play offensive attack took over the game with two back to back touchdowns.  The first, a 62 yard pass for a score, 14-7, followed by a quick pass and a long run of 76 yards for another score, giving the Highlanders a 21-7 commanding lead.  The Falcons fought back and after their first field goal attempt was blocked, got themselves into position again and Jordan Tyrna hit a field goal of 20 yards to bring the score at halftime to 21-10.

Clear Lake dominated the clock time but The Woodlands Highlanders never needed much time with their explosive big play offense.  The Falcons came out in the third quarter to get closer when they marched down field and Randall Hollimon burst out for a run of 30 yards and a touchdown, bringing the score to 21-17, but that was as close as the Highlanders would allow for the rest of the game.

With only a little over 4 minutes left in the third quarter The Woodlands found the end zone on an 8 yard run, increasing their lead to 28-17.  Then again in the fourth quarter, Highlander’s Quarterback Trent Eckle threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, giving The Woodlands a 35 to 17 lead.

The Highlanders never scored again and Clear Lake followed with another rushing touchdown and another field goal of 28 yards by Jordan Tyrna to make the score 35-27.  Clear Lake made a valiant effort to get back in the game but never overcame the big plays produced by The Woodlands passing attack.  Clear Lake amassed 414 yards rushing with three runners over a hundred yards and the Falcon’s Darien Godfrey also rushed for another 30 yards.

The Clear Lake Falcons season record has dropped to 1-2 and next Friday, September 25, at 7 pm, they travel to Galveston Island to take on the Ball High Tors, who are still looking for their first win of the season after losing last week to Beaumont Central.
