Information:  League City Invites Residents to Learn about Houston Avenue Project

The City of League City is making improvements to Houston Avenue’s pavement, drainage and utilities from FM 518 to SH 3. We are inviting residents to learn more about the project, ask questions, and give their opinions during a public meeting on September 9th at 7:00 p.m. at the League City Council Chambers.

The proposed project would convert Houston Avenue from a 24-feet wide asphalt-paved street, with open ditches to a 29-feet wide concrete curb and guttered street, with sidewalks, and an enclosed storm sewer system. Improvements will also be made to short sections of 13 streets that intersect Houston Avenue. The total construction cost is approximately $3 million.

Project goals include alleviating drainage problems on Houston Avenue and surrounding neighborhood streets, access to and from FM 518 (East Main Street), improving pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic safety, and reducing long-term maintenance costs on Houston Avenue.

The Houston Avenue project originated in 2003; however, the project could not be brought forward to the design stage until repairs and rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer mains located under the road were performed.
